Edisto Beach Fauna & Flora

Living on Edisto Beach means sharing the island with a rich and varied coastal environment. Beaches, dunes, salt marshes, and maritime forests all contribute to the natural character of the community. Protecting these habitats helps preserve the scenery, wildlife, and coastal landscape that make Edisto Beach such a special place.

Native vegetation reflects the island’s coastal setting. Live oaks, palmettos, pines, magnolias, sea oats, marsh grasses, and other salt-tolerant plants are found throughout the area. These plants help shape the landscape while also providing habitat and helping protect dunes and shorelines.

Edisto Beach is also home to a wide variety of wildlife, including deer, dolphins, shorebirds, herons, ospreys, crabs, and other marine life. Loggerhead sea turtles nest along the beaches, while the surrounding marshes and tidal waters provide important habitat for fish, shrimp, oysters, and many other species.
